Douillac PER expansion

1. Why an expansion?

Following the in-depth study of technical historical archives, the Compagnie des Mines Arédiennes highlighted a polymetallic mineral resource potential on much larger territory than that concerned by the three PERs currently in operation (Douillac, Pierrepinet and Fayat together covering around 30 km²).

The expansion of the Douillac PER would broaden the scope of research with the aim of improving knowledge deposits likely to meet future needs and uses as part of the ecological and energy transition, and studying the geology of the Saint-Yrieix district on a larger scale.
This mineral resource potential would contribute to meeting the challenges of competitiveness and sovereignty of the European Union for the supply of critical raw materials within the framework of the CRM Act.

The expansion of the perimeter available for research would also enable the Compagnie des Mines Arédiennes to take greater account of the environment, the territory and the inhabitants concerned. If a sensitive area is identified and a larger area is available, research could be directed towards less sensitive areas.

In parallel with this expansion application, applications to extend the Douillac and Pierrepinet PERs for a further five years have been submitted to the Minister in charge of mines.

2. In which towns?

The Douillac PER currently covers an area of 7,11 km². The extension would bring the Douillac PER to 297,98 km² and the entire Compagnie des Mines Arédiennes exploration project over the three PERs to 330.14 km².

The extension would include four new communes, three in Haute-Vienne (Glandon, Ladignac-le-Long and la Meyze) and one in Dordogne (Jumilhac-le-Grand).

3. What contributions to the management of the research project?

The expansion of the perimeter available for research would enable the Compagnie des Mines Arédiennes to better take into account the environment, the territory and the inhabitants concerned. If a sensitive area with a larger territory is identified, research could be directed towards less sensitive areas.

Furthermore, the expansion would make it possible to study the geology of the district of Saint-Yrieix on a larger scale, thus improving knowledge of the subsoil in order to best meet the European Union's competitiveness and sovereignty challenges for the supply of critical raw materials.
